Coffee Pairs Nicely with Everything

Coffee Lover Gift, Coffee Pairs Nicely with Everything Wood Sign, Canvas, Cards, Stickers, Tags, Vinyl for Cricut or Silhouette | mamasbrush

A few months ago I saw one of those “coffee pairs nicely with silence” signs that are out there. Have you seen them? There are tons. I thought of my father-in-law. He likes silence! 🙂 Then I started thinking about my mom… she thinks coffee pairs nicely with EVERYTHING! So I did a search… and another. And another. It wasn’t out there! I was shocked. Surely more people love coffee THIS much!

So I set out to making one… but I wasn’t sure if what I came up with was THE one.

Coffee Lover Gift, Coffee Pairs Nicely with Everything Wood Sign, Canvas, Cards, Stickers, Tags, Vinyl for Cricut or Silhouette | mamasbrush

So I designed another… and another… and another.

Coffee Lover Gift, Coffee Pairs Nicely with Everything Wood Sign, Canvas, Cards, Stickers, Tags, Vinyl for Cricut or Silhouette | mamasbrush

Until I had 7 designs. Some are just slight variations of another, but I couldn’t decide which I liked better. I asked Husband… and Mom… and sister. Wouldn’t you know it, they all liked different ones.

So in the end, I decided to use them all, in one bundle of coffee goodness. Because, sometimes, silence doesn’t happen! There are 7 designs in black and white for cutting on your Cricut or Silhouette cutting machines. I picture these designs on canvas or wood in your coffee bar. I’m planning to make some of those signs to sell at Christmas market later this year!

I’ve also made those 7 designs with a touch of color for printing! Print and frame them, make them into stickers, or cards, or tags. Possibilities are limited only by your imagination!

Farmhouse Bridal Shower

Farmhouse Bridal Shower | mamasbrush Pallets, chalkboards, garlands, tiered trays, mini rolling pins, wooden signs, mason jars, old trucks, wooden beads and buffalo check come together to make this farmhouse themed bridal shower.

This is one of three bridal showers I did last spring for ladies in our church. This bride is the one I designed wedding invitations for (I shared those here.)

The bride is one of the adopted daughters of our pastor and his wife and I was delighted to have the opportunity to do something special for her. She loves farmhouse decor (as do I, so it was perfect!), so it just seemed natural to use that as her theme.

The invitation was designed to be emailed to the church. (I’ve changed all names and numbers to protect privacy.)

Would anyone be interested if I were to list invitations in my Etsy store? Let me know and I’ll see what I can do!

I used my trusty chalkboard (love this thing!) and a pennant banner my oldest daughter and I made for her 11th birthday (several years ago now). I just love using it when I get the chance!

The center pieces were fun. I ordered a bunch of mini rolling pins (I’d wanted them forever and found a great place to buy them on Etsy!) for this event and my own use. For the party, I used fabric to cover them and taped it on. This was a great way to temporarily dress them up, but leave them for me to do something else with later. I also decoupaged and added vinyl we cut on my cricut to the wood wood pieces for fast and easy signs.

The jars were painted with chalk paint. We made three of them and I gifted one to the bride. I took the idea right off her registry. She had registered for one exactly like it, so I just DIY’d it for her. (Thanks mom for your help in that project! We all know you did all the work!)

No two tables were exactly the same. Many other elements used for the center pieces were taken directly from my house. That’s my cake plate, my cute blue truck from Hobby Lobby, my “abide” wood block (part of my home spring decor), and those beads were something I wanted to make for myself anyway… just used the party to get it done. 🙂

Oh, and that’s my cute little tiered plate piece. (More beads I made for myself… these were part of my Valentine’s decor.) I keep the church party budget down by using decor and making decor that I want for myself anyway. 🙂

These pallets really make this dessert table, if you ask me. They are painted grey and fit perfectly with the pink. Of course more of our pennant garland to finish it off.

The tiered tray is from home also, as well as all the decor on it. My son made the “LOVE” blocks for me years ago (it actually spells “SNOW” on the other side. The little houses, the cupcake stand, the Rae Dunn mug I styled re-styled myself in this fashion, the mason jar plate and all the hydrangeas were right out of my kitchen.

All the little details were so fun to pull together, right down to the gingham ribbon on the rice krispie treats and the “R” I placed on the drink table as a nod to her new last name.

Was the event perfect? No. No event ever comes together just as it is in my head, but we enjoyed a time of fellowship, ate some goodies, watched the bride and her fiance open gifts, and bowed in a time of prayer for the couple and their coming marriage. The couple and their families felt the love of God poured through the church family… that makes the event a success.

Whimsical Art Prints for Children

These dandelion prints make me smile. You’ve seen the artwork before here, but I wasn’t done. Before long I began working on these prints that would be fitting in any child’s space.

I love whimsy in my home decor, but especially in my children’s rooms. I don’t know how much of my home decor taste is because I have so many children in my home (six kids age 15 and under) and have for so many years, but I can’t help myself. I love making spaces that my family can enjoy. And they make me smile too.

And I love white space. This is something my husband and I don’t always agree on. I show him something I’ve created and he wants me to make a background. “NO!” I reply, calmly. (ahem) I just love how the focus is brought to all the right places with plenty of “negative” (that’s the fancy way to say white) space.

I included all the phrases, the dandelion fuzz blowing in the breeze, the little boy gifting a dandelion to his sister or friend because I think they carry the whimsy of the whole set. I really love the “D is for Dandelion” print. I was aiming for the simplicity of the outlined flower and the yellow “D” just sitting in the corner. I picture this set in a homeschool room, or even a preschool. On the bathroom walls or one or two of them sitting on the dresser in a nursery.

Valentine Shelves and 18 Days of…

Valentine Shelves | mamasbrush #Valentineshelves #valentinedecor #redand black #buffalocheck #februarydecor

February is here, and with it comes a change of decor around our home. I decorate a few other places, but none as loved as these amazing shelves my husband made for me out of the beams he took out of our 1900 farmhouse.

A few things I kept from January… my black and white wood bead garland, but I flipped over the circle. This side has “home” on it with a heart. Good all year, but also good for Valentine’s Day. Also, my buffalo check wood house, black snowflake block, my skinny wood snowman (made by one of my boys when they were younge) and some snowballs. In our part of the country we still have snow in February.

Valentine Shelves | mamasbrush #Valentineshelves #valentinedecor #redand black #buffalocheck #februarydecor

New for the month are the ceramic strainer (from Hobby Lobby last year), my XO blocks (also made by one of my boys) and my new red truck (Hobby Lobby a couple weeks ago.)

Valentine Shelves | mamasbrush #Valentineshelves #valentinedecor #redand black #buffalocheck #februarydecor

On the bottom shelf I added a couple red felt hearts my oldest daughter made a few years back.

Oh, and the black chalkboard on the left is something I added mid-January and kept over. 18 days ago, in fact. That’s my sugar free count. I’ve been sugar free off and on over the last 4-5 years. But when I get back on it, it’s hard to go off again. I was thinking that the sign would help, and I was right! Today is day 18 off sugar! It keeps me accountable to all the kids. They are such a great cheering section. In those first few days when I would normally be super tempted to start over again at “Day zero”, I hardly struggled because I knew I’d have to write a zero on that board. The other night when I so wanted to have a “cheat” day because everyone else was eating cake and ice cream, I didn’t because of that board.

Have you ever added an accountability board to your decor?

Christmas Lights Family Sign

Okay, this might be my last look back at Christmas. I decided to include it so that anyone who wants to use the idea for next year can get a head start. 🙂 I’m always planning to start early for Christmas… I just never get to it. 🙂

I’ve been making these cute Christmas lights since 2016, when I first started illustrating and painting. Each year they change a little bit as my style is further developed or they are applied to new things. It started with these cute cards…

They are simple and colorful on tags and simple cards.

Last year I made these…

Christmas Lights Family Sign | mamasbrush #woodsign # christmaslights #family #shiningourlights #christianfamilysign
Again, look for the Christmas lights.

I was so excited about them. And they didn’t sell at all.

That’s okay… it happens sometimes. We’ve been doing this long enough to know that just because something doesn’t sell well one year, doesn’t mean that they won’t another year.

This year we sold one of the three I made. Okay… progress.

A few weeks later I started thinking how I’ll change them next year. Customize them with family names.

Then I got a text.

A friend from church wanted to know if I had any of these left. It was 4 days before Christmas. I got the text while my husband and I were walking the aisles in the first of 4 stores we had planned that night. In other words, while I was able to send her some pics and quote some prices, I wouldn’t be home for a while.

Then the “big ask”, as she called it. She wondered if it could be customized… in time for Christmas.

Unnecessarily long story shorter, this is what I came up with…

I was happy. She was happy. And Christmas was saved! 🙂

Until Next time,

Winter Shelf Decor

I’ve been sick since Wednesday last week. I think that makes today day 6. The first couple days I slept a lot, but since then I’ve had energy enough for using my computer on the couch. This has led to garden planning, illustrating, homeschool stuff, and even some blogging. Yey! I have nearly 2 years worth of stuff to share, so I’ve written up some posts to share with you. (No, I haven’t done all of them!) For now I’m scheduling them out one per week. I know when I’m back to full energy, I won’t have as much time on my hands, so I’m spreading things out to be more sustainable. 🙂

Winter Shelves | mamasbrush #snowmen #snow #winterdecor #snowflake #blackandwhitebuffalowcheck #black

Today I want to share my winter shelf decor, so I’m slipping it in as an extra post. It’s a simple, one pic kind of post. I’m loving black and white buffalo check these days, so last January I added some black and white winter decoration to my collection. I also changed out the ribbon on that jar of “snowballs” for black and white check.

Until nextime,

Christmas Market 2021

Yes, I’m running behind. But since I struggle just to get here at all, I’ll do what I can. Just because I’m not posting, doesn’t mean I’m not doing… in fact, it’s probably because of all I’m “doing” that I rarely get around to post.

2021 Christmas Market Display | mamasbrush #woodbookstacks #Christmasdecor #winterdecor #craftfairdisplay #craftfair #woodbeadgarland #signs

All that to say… here are some pics of this year’s Christmas Market. The kids and I participate in it together and my mom comes to help. Sometimes that means we work together on projects, sometimes that just means we all contribute our own work and sell at the same table. This year my three oldest and I sold. The kids use the money they make from the market to help pay for summer camp. I used mine to by my husband a Christmas gift. 🙂

We had a number of ornaments this year. Some were from past years and a handful were new.

My 11 year old son and I made these extra-mini book stack ornaments. They turned out so cute!! In the tree pic above you may be able to see the “Hot Cocoa” and “Candy Cane” versions too.

As far as book stacks go, we also made this cute regular mini sized book stack. I used dowels for the mini-marshmallows on top. This sold almost immediately. We’ll be making more next year! 🙂

My oldest son (15yo) and I did these big books as well. I’m just loving these book stacks! We’ll be making some spring versions for sure!

You can also see some of the garlands and rolling pins I did. And the snowman salt and pepper shakers. We gave them an upgrade from last year, replacing the burlap with black and white check. I love them! 13yo DD made them a couple years ago.

This shot is more of my tiered tray. There are so many cute things in here. My mini “home brewed” coffee sign, a couple more bead garlands and more rolling pins.

Here are a few more snowman signs like I shared last weekend. I just love the square one. When I get around to making my own, I’ll do it that way.

2021 Christmas Market Display | mamasbrush #woodbookstacks #Christmasdecor #winterdecor #craftfairdisplay #craftfair #woodbeadgarland #signs

I expanded on the mugs I sold this year. In addition to the ones I made last year, I also had some printed with original artwork. I forgot to take close ups of the mugs, but one is my snowmama and kid hugging. It says “I love my snowmama”. Another mug has an illustration of mistletoe on it and says “In this house we do mistletoe.” The last design is my “home brewed, served always” coffee print. I didn’t sell enough to break even on those this year, but they were fun to include and hopefully more will sell next year.

It was our best year so far and we had such a fun time doing it. I hope you enjoyed seeing some of what we did this year!

I’ve been away for a while. I know. When deadlines start to stack up, something’s got to give. I admitted up front that painting is what I do in my spare time… when I have some. And when I don’t, there certainly isn’t time to blog… not to mention nothing to blog about! 🙂

One of the things keeping me busy is a quilt that I’m making for my 5 year old son’s 6th birthday (next week). It’s still not done, but it’s closer. 🙂 On top of that, Christmas market was inching nearer. All my *extra* energy was going to those projects during the day and late into the night. No painting… no blogging. No problem!

But this past weekend was Christmas Market at our church. We took a lot of time the last few weeks working on the children’s projects. They turned out really well.

The small trees on the table were made from lath that came out of our walls during renovation. The blocks are cut from scrap 2x4s my husband used when re-building the walls.

You may notice in the first pictures, that the “J” is missing. Those first couple pictures were taken the night we set up (since the window makes day pictures near impossible) and we had already gathered up all the “J”s to take back home and fix. This is a new project we did this year and I’m especially attached to it because I drew out the letters and the manger shape myself (instead of using the Cricut). When I showed the J-O-Y to my husband, he said we should add “bundle of” to it. After some brainstorming, I thought that little star would be cute! Sadly, they didn’t sell this year, but they could next year, so I tucked them away.

My boys made these cute trees from the old living room floor my husband pulled up in September.

I’ve sold a few things here and there in past years, but this year I prepared a bunch. These are some of the cards I made. They are original paintings done in watercolor. The plastic bags I have them in made them hard to photograph. 🙂

Our Christmas Market Display where I sold my own artwork | mamasbrush #cards #watercolor #Christmas #market #vendor #artwork #penguin #snowman #Christian #church #mistletoe #manger #Jesus #handmade #tree #display

I also turned some of my past art into notepads. They were a labor of love using this tutorial to bind them.

And those little framed guys in the tiered tray were mine as well. I promised myself I’d have better pictures than I have… but alas. I’ll have to pull the ones I have left out to photograph them for you before putting them in the attic.

Attendance was up this year and we did pretty good. All the money the kids make goes toward summer camp and any that I make goes into the “braces fund.” Any little bit helps! 🙂 The Christmas Market takes a lot of work to prepare for, but it’s something I really enjoy doing. 🙂 And it’s really encouraging to me to find that, not only do people like the art I’ve created, but, they are willing to spend money on it too. 🙂

Apples – Pick Your Own Fall Sign | Hand Lettered and Painted Free Printable

I love love love these printable signs I found over at Clean and Scentsible! I pinned my favorites here. (And that towel… you’ll have to go look. It’s too cute!)

Pick Your Own Fall Apples | Free Printable with hand lettered Colossians 3:23

I tend to steer toward the farmhouse style decor… at least on Pinterest, and these cute signs planted a seed in me to make my own version of them. I just couldn’t let many days go by before I just had to try it with an apple theme. I generally decorate with apples in September. It’s not quite fall, but I’m itching for it to be… apples seem to be a happy medium before my leaves and pumpkins come out at the end of the month.

Pick Your Own Fall Apples | Free Printable with hand lettered Colossians 3:23

I started by sketching this one out. It’s not a “no-sketch” by any means. There were too many elements to get just right. I suppose if you wanted to “no-sketch” it, you could always scan each element in individually and put it together in Photoshop… but I didn’t do that this time. 🙂

I love the look of all the farmhouse signs I see, but when it comes time to buy or make one for myself, I can’t make myself do it. Something always seems to be missing. First of all, I wanted to add a verse to it somehow, but I also wanted to make it more personal. I felt like putting “family farm” at the top fit us better since that’s what we pretend to be. Then I loved how “pick your own” fit the attitude of encouraging the children to help out and take initiative.

Pick Your Own Fall Apples | Free Printable with hand lettered Colossians 3:23

I tried a new watercolor paper this time around. Hot pressed. It’s much smoother and [hopefully] easier to scan and clean up in Photoshop for you all. Shayda recently did a video that talks about the differences in watercolor paper, so I was ready for it to be different. It definitely was different, and it will take some practice, but I think it worked out nicely. Nothing you should be afraid to try for sure. The main reason I decided to try it is that Eileen at My Creative Resolution mentioned in a post (no idea which one… sorry!) that the texture of watercolor paper is hard on artist pens. It was at that moment I understood why my pens never seem to last long! 🙂 An ah-ha moment to be sure! The smooth finish of the hot pressed paper should help them to last longer. And it does scan much nicer!

I know there are already so many fall printables out there, but I don’t often see these seasonal printables with Bible verses on them, so I want to share them with you in the off chance that any of you are still in the market for a cute apple themed fall printable or have been holding out for one with a verse. My Shelves Dressed up for Fall

Confession: These are last year’s shelves! Somehow I never shared them with you, but I wanted to kick off this September with a little look at fall.

My Shelves Dressed up for Fall

I first introduced these shelves in my Valentine post (and again this summer), but ironically, these fall pics were taken just days after the shelves were installed. This is the first vignette I put together on them. It’s fitting that it was for fall because it is my favorite season!

My Shelves Dressed up for Fall

Rarely do I decorate the same way from year to year, so I imagine I’ll have this year’s shelf decor to share with you toward the end of the month (you know, when it’s actually fall.)

In the mean time, it’s finally September! And September is close enough to fall to start talking about it in my book! 🙂

Happy <almost> fall everyone!
