Christmas Market 2021

Yes, I’m running behind. But since I struggle just to get here at all, I’ll do what I can. Just because I’m not posting, doesn’t mean I’m not doing… in fact, it’s probably because of all I’m “doing” that I rarely get around to post.

All that to say… here are some pics of this year’s Christmas Market. The kids and I participate in it together and my mom comes to help. Sometimes that means we work together on projects, sometimes that just means we all contribute our own work and sell at the same table. This year my three oldest and I sold. The kids use the money they make from the market to help pay for summer camp. I used mine to by my husband a Christmas gift. 🙂

We had a number of ornaments this year. Some were from past years and a handful were new.

My 11 year old son and I made these extra-mini book stack ornaments. They turned out so cute!! In the tree pic above you may be able to see the “Hot Cocoa” and “Candy Cane” versions too.

As far as book stacks go, we also made this cute regular mini sized book stack. I used dowels for the mini-marshmallows on top. This sold almost immediately. We’ll be making more next year! 🙂

My oldest son (15yo) and I did these big books as well. I’m just loving these book stacks! We’ll be making some spring versions for sure!

You can also see some of the garlands and rolling pins I did. And the snowman salt and pepper shakers. We gave them an upgrade from last year, replacing the burlap with black and white check. I love them! 13yo DD made them a couple years ago.

This shot is more of my tiered tray. There are so many cute things in here. My mini “home brewed” coffee sign, a couple more bead garlands and more rolling pins.

Here are a few more snowman signs like I shared last weekend. I just love the square one. When I get around to making my own, I’ll do it that way.

I expanded on the mugs I sold this year. In addition to the ones I made last year, I also had some printed with original artwork. I forgot to take close ups of the mugs, but one is my snowmama and kid hugging. It says “I love my snowmama”. Another mug has an illustration of mistletoe on it and says “In this house we do mistletoe.” The last design is my “home brewed, served always” coffee print. I didn’t sell enough to break even on those this year, but they were fun to include and hopefully more will sell next year.

It was our best year so far and we had such a fun time doing it. I hope you enjoyed seeing some of what we did this year!

Christmas Market 2020

Christmas Market Crafts #ourhomebelieves #Christmas #sign #manger #reverse canvas

Hello there! I feel like I need to introduce myself. It’s been a long time since I’ve posted. While many of you may have found yourself with extra time this spring and summer during the quarentine, my homeschooling life didn’t change much. While many people blogged about spending their extra time learning new skills or being crafty, I was wrapping up one school year and starting another (why we homeschool year round), and this time, I’m homeschooling all six kids! Yes, six kids, 9th grade down to kindergarten. And only one of them works independently! That’s another story for another blog… someday.

At any rate, I did warn you that blogging is something I do in my spare time… and there hasn’t been much of late. Or I filled it with something else. 🙂 I have been saving things to share though, whenever I do have time.

Today I wanted to take a few minutes to share a few pictures of the Christmas Market the kids and I participate in at our church. It was a great year, maybe the best we’ve had. 47 vendors and more than 600 people came out this year… it was a moment for them to get out and enjoy some Christmas cheer!

I was happier with the set up this year than I thought I was going to be. We were supposed to have 2 tables, but I just wasn’t happy with it, so we moved the shelves onto a piano bench and put it behind the table. I also propped up my chalkboard behind the table so I could lean the signs on it. This opened up a lot of room on the table and everything came together nicely!

We had so many new things this year too! I got a Cricut Explore Air 2 for Christmas last year and finally got to play with it a bunch this fall in preparation for the market. Many of our new items were done with vinyl. Most of those were done with my own designs. It was so much fun!

This is one of my favorite new products. Sorry the pic isn’t great. And yes, that is my 12 year old weeding vinyl (for those of you who are savy in Cricut speak) in the background. This idea was born from my own groanings and prayers earlier this year. I was struggling with being content with our unfinished home. It happens sometimes. My husband has a lot of demands on his time and progress is sometimes slower than I like (since I was unrealistically hoping to be doe a couple years ago.) At any rate, while I was praying, God placed this idea in my head and heart… that our home is like our hearts, a work in progress.

Mugs were one of the things I was really excited about. I had two designs: “Let’s meet over coffee. -God” and “You are not enough – I AM”. Sadly, I don’t have any close up pics of the other one, but you can see them a little in the pic of the table.

I was really excited about the wood bead garlands. I’ve been dreaming of my own for a long time now, gushing all over Pinterest looking at everyone else’s. I wasn’t sure if I’d sell any, but I wanted them for me anyway, so I bought a big bag of beads and made 5 or 6 garlands. I figured if I sold a couple, I could buy a new bag of beads to make more for other seasons. Well, I get to. Several sold, I gifted one to my sister for her birthday and I have these two for me. 🙂

I used the extra beads to make these cute wood slice ornaments!

Speaking of ornaments, my girls (12 and 8) made these yoyo ornaments with my mom over the summer to sell at market. I think they did a great job! They were our most popular item!

I’ve also been wanting to make these reverse canvases. The coffee one I designed for my mom’s birthday this summer. I’ve seen similar things online, but they said “fresh brewed and served daily”, and that wasn’t going to do. Mom doesn’t care if it’s fresh, she just wants to drink it all the time. I had to make my own. Hers is applied right onto her coffee pot, but I love the way they turned out on the canvas as well! The other canvas was something I’ve been working on over the last couple years. I like how it turned out.

I’ve been away for a while. I know. When deadlines start to stack up, something’s got to give. I admitted up front that painting is what I do in my spare time… when I have some. And when I don’t, there certainly isn’t time to blog… not to mention nothing to blog about! 🙂

One of the things keeping me busy is a quilt that I’m making for my 5 year old son’s 6th birthday (next week). It’s still not done, but it’s closer. 🙂 On top of that, Christmas market was inching nearer. All my *extra* energy was going to those projects during the day and late into the night. No painting… no blogging. No problem!

But this past weekend was Christmas Market at our church. We took a lot of time the last few weeks working on the children’s projects. They turned out really well.

The small trees on the table were made from lath that came out of our walls during renovation. The blocks are cut from scrap 2x4s my husband used when re-building the walls.

You may notice in the first pictures, that the “J” is missing. Those first couple pictures were taken the night we set up (since the window makes day pictures near impossible) and we had already gathered up all the “J”s to take back home and fix. This is a new project we did this year and I’m especially attached to it because I drew out the letters and the manger shape myself (instead of using the Cricut). When I showed the J-O-Y to my husband, he said we should add “bundle of” to it. After some brainstorming, I thought that little star would be cute! Sadly, they didn’t sell this year, but they could next year, so I tucked them away.

My boys made these cute trees from the old living room floor my husband pulled up in September.

I’ve sold a few things here and there in past years, but this year I prepared a bunch. These are some of the cards I made. They are original paintings done in watercolor. The plastic bags I have them in made them hard to photograph. 🙂

I also turned some of my past art into notepads. They were a labor of love using this tutorial to bind them.

And those little framed guys in the tiered tray were mine as well. I promised myself I’d have better pictures than I have… but alas. I’ll have to pull the ones I have left out to photograph them for you before putting them in the attic.

Attendance was up this year and we did pretty good. All the money the kids make goes toward summer camp and any that I make goes into the “braces fund.” Any little bit helps! 🙂 The Christmas Market takes a lot of work to prepare for, but it’s something I really enjoy doing. 🙂 And it’s really encouraging to me to find that, not only do people like the art I’ve created, but, they are willing to spend money on it too. 🙂

2018 Christmas Market Display

Just like last year, our family participated in the Christmas Market at church.  I’m behind in posting this (by almost a month!) but the kids (I have 6) got sick the next day and we only just recovered.  I’ve been behind in Christmas prep/gifts and all the rest of life ever since.  Oh, and there was a surgery, two birthdays and Thanksgiving in there too.

Yes, that is why I’m hitting you with all these posts I’d intended to share before now… all of a sudden!  And the week before Christmas too.  I guess I feel like I won’t do it after.  So we press on. 🙂

Long story short… This was our display.  Hopefully you can zoom into anything you want to see better.  It’s a combination of last year’s left overs and some new things.  I didn’t make anything new this year.  I almost canceled the whole thing back in September.  Homeschooling 4 this year has me a little overwhelmed.  But then I decided that if I didn’t do anything personally, I could muster up what I needed to help them do it.  They are saving up to pay for summer camp.

They did pretty well, but we have a long way to go still!

Christmas Market

I mentioned before that I’ve helped the children make products to sell at our church’s Christmas Market for a number of years.  When I started painting in 2016, I included my Tree Lots as a custom order and had a lot of friendly comments and even got an order.

IMG_2377This past November, in addition to helping the children with their products, I also produced some of my own art to sell.  This is the picture we took before the Christmas tree was put up on the right side of the table.  It held all the ornaments the children made.

The mangers and lath Christmas trees were made by my 11 year old son.  The tags laying on the table and the snowman pillows were made by my 9 year old daughter.  The snowmen ornaments sitting on the shelves were done by my 7 year old son.  The cards, calendars and watercolor plaques were mine, as well as some of the other things.

We also had a few fall things for sale and my mom made wooden cutting boards and spatulas.

IMG_2380We didn’t sell as much as we’d hoped this year, but we did sell some things.  Really, it’s more about the experience of it all.  We include it in our homeschool as “industry/entrepreneurship”.  The kids make their own products and get to help sell them at the market.  It’s a lot of fun!  And the leftovers never go to waste because the children love to wrap them up as Christmas presents for friends and family.
